Shin Funayama
Chairman, European Cryogenics Business
Mr. Funayama has dedicated his career to Sumitomo’s cryogenics business, beginning as an engineer in 1985. During this time, he focused on the development of 10K Gifford-McMahon and GM-JT Cryocoolers. With his engineering experience and background, he moved on to become the Global Service Manager in 2001, growing the field service program and extending the required maintenance interval with the introduction of SHI’s 2nd generation Cryocoolers.
In 2012, he became President of Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics Taiwan Co., Ltd. (SCTW), supervising three 24/7 support locations, while developing an upgrade and replacement program to enhance customer productivity in the Taiwanese semiconductor market. After returning to Japan in 2015, he resumed the role of Global Service Manager, spearheading the service group’s End of Life program. Since 2017, he has been based in the United Kingdom as the Chairman, European Cryogenics Business, overseeing operations at Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics of Europe Ltd. In the UK and Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics of Europe GmbH in Germany.
